New Billings Venue for Friday Night Lights
Daylis Stadium in Billings, Montana, served as a hub for local sports and community events for nearly a century before deteriorating to the point of condemnation in 2024. In response, the Billings School District launched a $15 million fundraising campaign in 2025 to construct a new stadium, despite other major projects competing for donor support. The community rallied, with significant contributions from families, businesses, and organizations, leading to the creation of the Sam McDonald Stadium at Daylis.
The new facility features expanded locker rooms, upgraded restrooms, enhanced fan amenities, and a year-round, multi-sport design. It includes naming rights for key areas, reflecting major donations. The design and construction teams, many with personal ties to the old stadium, emphasized community pride and legacy throughout the process. The stadium is expected to host a variety of events, including football, soccer, and track meets, positioning it as a premier venue for the region.
The work has not gone unnoticed by those building it. Roman Domke, superintendent of the project for Dick Anderson Construction, says he loves seeing people come up to the fence to ask questions and share their enthusiasm. “That’s been a lot of fun to have that much community appreciation for it,” Domke said, noting that many of the subcontractors are personally invested in the outcome. “A lot of them played here and went to school here, so it’s a big deal for everybody.”
That sense of personal investment runs throughout the Dick Anderson Construction team. “Many of our project team members have cherished memories at Daylis Stadium. It’s an honor to be a part of such a meaningful project, and we are proud to help preserve that legacy for our community and the generations that follow,” said AJ Harmon, Project Manager.

The grand opening is scheduled for late August, with community celebrations planned, marking the beginning of a new era for students, athletes, and residents of Billings.
