KDID Upper Segment
Spillway Replacement

Project
Highlights

Construction of a new spillway for an asbestos mine tailings impoundment. Scope included mass excavation, soil/rock anchor installation, shotcrete, foundation prep, drilled/grouted slab anchors, reinforcing steel, and concrete. The project involved over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete, with slabs exceeding 3 feet in thickness and walls ranging from 28 feet to 12 feet in height. The project site contains asbestos, which added many layers of complexity as all labor was performed in respirators, suits, and required decontamination of all laborers and equipment.
